Pepecoin and Dogecoin
The same rules, ten years apart
Pepecoin is a fork of Dogecoin Core and keeps Dogecoin's monetary rules: the same algorithm, block time, block reward and open-ended supply. What differs is age, size and price.

Both chains add the same 5.26 billion coins a year, so Pepecoin's supply follows Dogecoin's curve about ten years behind it. See the supply and inflation chart.
Same hashrate, very different pay
Hashrate is the computing power mining a chain. Both chains aim for one block every 60 seconds, so hashrate works out to difficulty × 232 ÷ 60 seconds, and equal difficulty means equal hashrate.
How a small coin gets that much hashrate. Merged mining. The Scrypt machines that mine Pepecoin are already paid by Litecoin and Dogecoin, about $1.61M a day in block rewards between them. Pools that add PEP to their merged mining pay it out on top, for the same work and the same electricity. How merged mining works.
What it means for security. Out-mining Pepecoin takes roughly as much Scrypt hardware as out-mining Dogecoin, far more than PEP's own block rewards could pay for.
The catch. The hashrate is there because large pools include PEP in their merged mining. If they dropped it, Pepecoin's hashrate would fall with them. The live pool list is on miningpoolstats.
Price at the same age
Dogecoin launched in December 2013 and Pepecoin in January 2024. This chart lines them up by age: left to right is time since each coin's launch, bottom to top is the price in US dollars. Both chains issue coins on the same schedule, so at the same age they have about the same number of coins, and their prices can be compared directly.

What the chart shows. Both coins had their big first run inside year one and then gave most of it back. Dogecoin reached about $0.0018 early in 2014, weeks after launch, and was near $0.0001 by 2015. Pepecoin reached about $0.0018 in December 2024, ten months after launch, and has been near $0.0001 since spring 2026.
What it does not show. Dogecoin's later rises, in 2017 and 2021, had their own causes. Nothing here says Pepecoin will repeat them. One coin's past prices are not a forecast for another.
About the data. Pepecoin's line starts in March 2024, when price tracking began, so its first two months are missing. Each line is sampled every few days, which can clip a short spike. Exact all-time highs are on the calculator page.

Common questions
Is Pepecoin the same as Dogecoin?
Pepecoin is a fork of Dogecoin Core and keeps Dogecoin's monetary rules: the same algorithm, block time, block reward and open-ended supply. What differs is age, size and price.
Do Pepecoin and Dogecoin have a supply cap?
No. Both add a fixed 10,000 coins per one-minute block, about 5.26 billion a year, with no end date. Pepecoin's supply follows Dogecoin's curve about ten years behind it. See the supply and inflation chart.
Why does Pepecoin have similar hashrate but much lower miner pay?
Merged mining. The Scrypt machines that mine Pepecoin are already paid by Litecoin and Dogecoin. Pools that add PEP to their merged mining pay it out on top, for the same work and the same electricity. How merged mining works.
What does the price-at-the-same-age chart show?
It lines Dogecoin and Pepecoin up by time since each coin's launch so their prices can be compared at the same age. It does not forecast that Pepecoin will repeat Dogecoin's later rises. One coin's past prices are not a forecast for another.
Do Pepecoin addresses start with the same letter as Dogecoin?
No. Dogecoin addresses start with D; Pepecoin addresses start with P.
